What inspired you to create a Mineral Mask using ingredients from the Dead Sea?
The creation of The Dead Sea Co. Mineral Mask was deeply influenced by my Jordanian heritage and connection to the Dead Sea. Growing up, my frequent visits to the world’s oldest spa instilled in me a deep appreciation for its skin-boosting and therapeutic properties. However, it was after I welcomed a little one into my family that I experienced postpartum skin changes and rosacea flare-ups, prompting me to search for a Dead Sea mud mask. However, I was disappointed to find that most Dead Sea products on the market contained harsh preservatives and questionable synthetic ingredients, which was a far cry from the natural, skin-nourishing mud I was used to using at the Dead Sea. This discovery prompted myself and my two siblings to embark on a mission to develop a mask that not only harnessed the benefits of Dead Sea mud but also comprised solely of nourishing and good-for-you ingredients. Our journey began as a personal quest to address my own skin concerns, but it quickly transformed into a broader mission: to share the exceptional benefits of Dead Sea skincare with others. We recognised the need for authentic, high-quality Dead Sea products that would be free from harmful additives, and we wanted to fill that void in the market.
How did you discover the unique properties and benefits of the minerals found in the Dead Sea for skincare?
Growing up between England and Jordan, my childhood was enriched with regular visits to the Dead Sea. This iconic natural wonder has been celebrated for centuries due to its exceptional healing properties and the abundance of minerals found in its waters and mud.
Personally, experiencing the transformative effects on my skin during these visits, I would always depart with silky soft, glowing skin and a profound sense of well-being. These experiences instilled within me a deep appreciation for the remarkable skin-boosting and therapeutic benefits offered by this ancient spa.
Can you explain the specific minerals found in your Mineral Mask and their individual effects on the skin?
With concentrations up to 80 times higher than those in other seas, the Dead Sea is a unique source of skin-nourishing minerals. The silt found on its shores absorbs these naturally occurring minerals from the salty water, creating the foundation for our Mineral Mask. One of the remarkable benefits of Dead Sea mud is its phenomenal detoxifying powers. By working to draw out pore-clogging impurities, including those pesky blackheads, it helps to purify the skin. This mud contains Silica, a gentle abrasive mineral that aids in exfoliating dull dead skin cells, leaving behind a smoother and more radiant complexion. The high concentration of minerals like Sulphur in Dead Sea mud gives it an anti-microbial and anti-inflammatory property, helping to soothe skin, reduce the appearance of redness, and banish existing breakouts quickly.

The creation of The Dead Sea Co. was driven by the absence of natural and authentic Dead Sea masks in the market. Many existing options contained harsh preservatives and questionable synthetic ingredients. Through a meticulous journey of research and ingredient selection, in collaboration with an exceptional Dead Sea formulator in Jordan, we crafted a gentle yet highly effective mask that caters to all skin types. Our Mineral Mask stands out by remaining completely free from controversial chemicals, common irritants, and harsh preservatives.
Environmental consciousness is at the forefront of our product development. We prioritise minimal packaging to reduce waste, ensuring all materials used are recyclable, compostable, or biodegradable. We also responsibly source ingredients, supporting small local suppliers that align with our values whenever possible. For instance, our Pomegranate Seed Oil is sourced from seeds harvested by women in small villages in the north of Jordan.

How do you ensure the quality and purity of the Dead Sea mud used in your mask?
At The Dead Sea Co., ensuring the highest standards of quality and purity for the Dead Sea mud used in our mask is our top priority. To accomplish this, we have implemented a range of measures throughout our production process. Our Dead Sea mud is directly sourced from the shores of the Dead Sea in Jordan, renowned for its exceptional quality mud.
This ensures that we obtain the purest form of the mineral-rich mud. To maintain the integrity of the minerals, we work closely with an esteemed Dead Sea formulator in Jordan, who adheres to rigorous quality control measures. This includes careful processing techniques to preserve the natural properties and potency of the minerals. Throughout our production process, we prioritise the exclusion of controversial chemicals, common irritants, and harsh preservatives. Our mask is formulated without the use of parabens, phenoxyethanol, petrochemicals, formaldehyde, and alcohol denat. Instead, we utilise a gentle preservative system, at a minimal amount (less than 1%), that adheres to the stringent standards set by esteemed international certification agencies such as Ecocert, Soil Association, ICEA-AIAB, NaTrue, and COSMOS Standard. Our commitment to ingredient integrity is evident at every stage of product development, including the essential sterilisation process of our Dead Sea mud. Even during this crucial step, we prioritise the exclusion of chemicals to maintain our promise of utmost purity and effectiveness.
We also made a deliberate decision not to incorporate any fragrance into our Mineral Mask, allowing the natural scent of the Dead Sea mud to prevail. The mud’s natural aroma may be perceived as potent by some individuals. However, we remain steadfast in our commitment to crafting a mask using solely nourishing, skin-loving ingredients. Our goal has always been to create a product free from unnecessary additives and fillers, staying true to our mission.
From the careful sourcing of our Dead Sea mud to the meticulous formulation process, we maintain strict quality control at every step. This ensures that our mask stands out with its exceptional quality and purity, guaranteeing a premium product for our customers’ skincare routine.
What steps do you take to ensure sustainability and environmental responsibility?
Previously, we had a donation initiative in place where we contributed £1 to EcoPeace Middle East for every Mineral Mud Mask sold. This support was specifically for their Green-Blue Deal proposal, which aimed to address water scarcity in the Jordan Valley, where the Dead Sea is located. However, the programme is undergoing changes and we are in discussions with the NGO to determine the best way we can continue supporting their efforts.
Given the complex political situation in the Middle East, promoting sustainability and environmental responsibility requires collaboration among different countries. We believe that The Dead Sea Co. has a significant role to play in raising awareness about water scarcity in the Jordan Valley and advocating for a regional development plan that strikes a balance between Dead Sea conservation and local industrial and agricultural needs (which is the biggest environmental issue in that region).
As someone with a background in sustainability, I am currently working on finalising our plans in this regard. Therefore, I am hesitant to share specific details until we have everything in place.
What kind of feedback have you received from customers who have used your Mineral Mask?
We have been absolutely thrilled by the positive feedback we have received from individuals who have used our Mineral Mask and experienced remarkable improvements in their skin’s appearance and texture. Our customers have expressed great admiration for the packaging and accessories, which aligns perfectly with our goal of ensuring that each package feels like a special gift. The attention to detail in our packaging and the thoughtfully chosen accessories truly elevate the overall customer experience.
What’s remarkable is that despite some finding the natural scent of our product strong, many customers are eager to continue using it because of the incredible results they have experienced. We are grateful for the feedback we receive, particularly the recent reviews on Beauty Buddy, as it serves as a valuable tool for us to continuously enhance and refine our offerings.
Are there any specific skin types or concerns that your mineral mask is particularly effective for?
Our Mineral Mud Mask is suitable for all skin types, making it a versatile option. However, there are specific benefits that make it particularly effective for certain skin types and concerns. For oily skin, our mask is highly beneficial as it has the ability to deeply purify and detoxify the skin. It works by drawing out pore-clogging impurities, including excess sebum. For dry, dehydrated, and combination skin types, our mask offers deep cleansing properties while simultaneously providing much-needed hydration. It helps to replenish moisture, soften the skin, and soothe any dryness or discomfort. Mature skin can also benefit from our Mineral Mud Mask. It effectively cleanses the skin without stripping away its moisture, which is essential for maintaining a youthful appearance. Additionally, the mask works to enhance the skin’s elasticity and minimise the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
Any plans for more products to add to the range?
In addition to our Dead Sea Mineral Mask, we currently offer Dead Sea Soaking Salts and Aromatherapy Shower Steamers as part of our range. These products are designed to enhance your self-care routine and provide holistic benefits for both the skin and the mind. We are passionate about developing new skincare and self-care products that go beyond traditional approaches.
Our goal is to create innovative formulations that benefit not only the skin but also the body and mind. We understand the importance of nurturing a complete sense of well-being, and our upcoming product developments will reflect that commitment. Recently, we had an exciting opportunity to showcase our products at a pop-up shop on Oxford Street, which served as a valuable trial for our entry into the world of retail. The overwhelmingly positive response from customers and the invaluable insights gained from this experience have further fuelled our determination to explore the realm of retail in a more significant way. With a focus on expansion, we are committed to strengthening our global presence and reaching customers across different regions, ensuring that our products and brand experience are accessible to a wider audience.
